An Example

Most Sunday devotions during this series will simply be a prompt to begin thinking about that day's sermon and the next phrase in the Lord's Prayer.  Except this Sunday's sermon is on a different topic.  However, we will hear a mission update from a family we support.  With their permission I have anonymously included some of their story here because it exemplifies our recent focus on approaching God as Father.

Contained in this simple missionary update is a genuine example of someone that clings tightly to the knowledge of God as Father.  As you read these brief excerpts, notice how the Fatherhood of God guides their thinking as well as their lives.
The hardship of natural disasters became a place where strong community relationships were formed.  Farmers in our communities observed how we just trusted our Father and turned dirt, replanted, and now began harvesting.  Whenever they ask us where our hope comes from, we give the Father all the credit.
The letter goes on to talk about a specific discussion with a neighbouring farmer friend.
We shared about how our Father supplies what we need even in hard places.  I then shared with him that the Father is faithful and won't let us go.  We should not give up but keep planting in His strength. Each conversation I have...brings out more questions about why the Father provides for us all.
These are not just words.  This is not just prayer.  This is life with God as Father!
QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF
  • How might the life of a farmer inform one's view of God as Father?
  • How is your trust impacted by your view of God as Father?
  • What is the link between prayer and life?  How does that influence how you will approach the Father?
